"WHAT ISLAM HAS TO SAY ON INTOXICANTS"

| Homicide | Vehicular accidents | Health problems |

Throughout human history the issue of drinking alcohol and the use of drugs has been viewed as a matter of personal choice that is not relevant to the societies rule of law and order. 1400 years ago, Islam is by all means an exception to this rule. Not only did this it prohibit drinking of alcohol, but it has also made such a prohibition part of its believe system. Such an approach to drinking coincides with statistical results of the modern era that proves that drinking alcohol and using illegal drugs is related to nearly every major problem in the society.

The following are examples for statistics from modern societies that proves the case against drinking alcohol and during use. These statistics reveal how correct was Islam when it prohibited all kinds of drug use.

"O you who have believed , indeed, intoxicants, gambling, stone alters and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful."

1) Homicide: The U.S. Bureau of Justice statistics reveals that:

a - More than 60% of violent offenders in state prisons admit they or their victims were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of their offense.

b - Almost 40% of the youth in long-term incarceration were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of their crimes.

2) Vehicular accidents: Statistics from the Department of Transportation shows that 48% of fatal car accidents involved men or women who were driving under the influence of alcohol.
3) Health problems: Drinking alcohol and drug abuse have also been statistically proven to be related to major health problems, such as cerosis liver and loss of sexual drive. In short Islam was the first religion to prohibit drinking as a matter of law and not a matter of choice. Such an approach that ties faith to an important social behavior - not to drink any alcohol beverages - males adhering to such a law more possible. It is only through modern social statistics that we discovered how dangerous drinking alcohol and the use of drugs and Islam have took a strong stand against it - 1400 years ago.
